The Complete
Tarot Deck Guide

78 cards. One unfolding story. Discover the bigger lessons, everyday moments, and soundtracks that connect them.

The deck at a glance

Two Arcana. One conversation.

Arcana means “mysteries.” A traditional tarot deck holds 22 Major Arcana cards and 56 Minor Arcana cards. Neither is more valuable: they offer different scales of insight, like the story of an album and the details within each song.

22 cards · The larger story

Major Arcana

From The Fool to The World, these archetypes explore beginnings, choices, change, healing, and integration. They often invite reflection on a turning point or a deeper life lesson.

56 cards · The everyday chapters

Minor Arcana

Four suits each contain ten numbered cards (Ace through Ten) and four court cards (Page, Knight, Queen, King). They explore the feelings, thoughts, actions, and practical circumstances within your larger story.

Wands

Fire · inspiration & action

Creative energy, passion, ambition, and the courage to begin.

Cups

Water · feelings & connection

Emotions, relationships, intuition, and what nourishes your heart.

Swords

Air · thoughts & truth

Communication, perspective, decisions, and the stories you tell yourself.

Pentacles

Earth · daily life & resources

Work, money, wellbeing, home, and the steady work of building something lasting.

Where do court cards fit?

Pages can suggest curiosity or learning; Knights, movement and pursuit; Queens, an inwardly grounded expression; and Kings, direction and stewardship. They may reflect a person, an aspect of you, or an approach to a situation—not a fixed gender or age.

Your first reading

Begin with curiosity.

  1. Ask with openness

Choose a question that leaves room for insight: “What can I understand about this situation?” or “What might support my next step?” Tarot is a reflective practice, not a guarantee of future events.

  2. Shuffle & draw

Take a breath, hold your question in mind, and shuffle in a way that feels comfortable. Start with one card, or draw three for the spread below.

  3. Notice before interpreting

Look at the image first. Which symbol, color, or character draws your attention? Name the feeling it brings up, then explore the card’s meaning.

  4. Read the cards together

A Major Arcana card often points to a larger theme; a Minor Arcana card adds everyday context. Repeated suits may highlight a shared area of focus. Let the question and the surrounding cards shape the reading.

  5. Listen & reflect

Open the card’s upright or reversed playlist in the Musical Tarot Guidebook. Notice a lyric, mood, or melody that resonates. Journal one insight and one grounded action you can take.

A simple three-card spread

2What to notice
3Next step

For example, The Fool alongside the Ace of Pentacles could connect a new beginning with a practical opportunity. The next card adds context—no card has to tell the whole story alone.

Upright & reversed

Upright meanings explore a card’s more direct expression. A reversed card can suggest energy that is inward, blocked, delayed, or asking for a different balance—not automatically something negative. Reading reversals is optional; choose a consistent approach before you draw.

Let tarot support your own judgment and agency. It is not a substitute for professional medical, legal, financial, or mental-health advice.
